Help Us Support the Sports Project“Los Fénix de Las Brisas”

Sport, discipline and opportunity for the youth of Las Brisas

The Los Fénix de Las Brisas project is a community-based sports initiative with a social and volunteer character operating in the community of Las Brisas, district of Cóbano, province of Puntarenas (Costa Rica).

The project was launched in March 2025 thanks to the initiative of coach César Rosales Elizondo, with the aim of offering children and adolescents in the community a healthy and structured sporting environment capable of promoting discipline, self-confidence and opportunities for personal growth.

The initiative is supported by the local community network and is part of the Ruta Humana program, promoted by the Harry Tallarita Humanitarian Entity and the Confederation of Humanitarian Nations (CNU), with the support of the community association Provivienda Solidaridad en Acción por un Techo Digno.

The community context

The community of Las Brisas is a rural area where many young people grow up with limited access to sports and educational opportunities.

In this context, the presence of organized activities for children and adolescents represents an important tool for social prevention and personal development.

The Los Fénix project was created precisely with this goal: to offer young people a positive alternative, helping them develop essential personal and social skills.

Through the practice of boxing, participants learn important values such as:

  • discipline
  • mutual respect
  • perseverance
  • personal responsibility
  • teamwork

Project activities

The project organizes regular boxing training sessions for children, adolescents and young people in the community.

Access to the activities is open also to young people from families with limited financial resources, allowing many of them to practice a sport that would otherwise be inaccessible.

All activities are carried out entirely on a voluntary basis.

Much of the organization is supported directly by coach César Rosales Elizondo, who is responsible for:

  • organizing training sessions
  • supervising the preparation of the athletes
  • accompanying the young athletes to competitions
  • personally covering part of the logistical and transportation costs

Despite the lack of professional equipment and limited resources, the project continues to grow thanks to the commitment of the community.

Achievements so far

Despite its recent creation, the project has already demonstrated its educational and sporting value.

One of the young athletes involved in the project, Alexandra, 13 years old, won a silver medal in a local sporting competition.

This achievement represented an important milestone for the entire Las Brisas community.

Following this result, the Comité Cantonal de Deportes de Cóbano officially recognized the athlete for her achievement.

In addition, the local sports committee has announced the delivery of sports equipment and uniforms to support at least three young athletes from the project.

Upcoming competitions

Currently, four young athletes from the project have been selected to participate in a competition scheduled for March 23.

During this competition, athletes will be evaluated for access to the Costa Rica National Games, one of the most important sporting competitions at the national level.

Athletes who achieve the best result in their category will qualify for the national stage.

For the young participants, this represents a significant opportunity for both athletic and personal development.

Project needs

The project continues to operate almost entirely thanks to the voluntary commitment of its promoters.

In order to ensure continuity and safety in the sporting activities, it is necessary to equip the group with appropriate training and competition equipment.
